Student Expectations for Online Courses at the College of Public Health

Student Expectations (SAMPLE)

Check the course homepage, calendar and assignment page, your email, and the Carmen course discussion board several times a week.
Post comments and responses to the discussion board at least twice a week.
Keep up with your reading assignments, study guides, and on-line quizzes (as applicable). These quizzes test your knowledge and comprehension of the new content. You may have two attempts at each online quiz, and will receive the highest score achieved. It's OK for these to be open note, open book, but since you are limited in time to take them, you will do better if you have studied ahead. They must be finished by the due date listed in the assignment description
Participate actively in class discussions by asking questions, responding to questions, and posting other comments including.
Complete the "OMP" (formerly called “SURVEY – Weekly Check-Ins) or one-minute paper form for each week of content. This is very helpful to me as it lets me know what is clear and not so clear to you, and any needs you have. I will post compilations of these OMPs on the discussion board with my responses. (Or, as in for 6310 online, in “Digital Office Hours”)
Practice "Netiquette": be polite and respectful in your postings (no "Flaming" or posting / sending negative, hurtful comments to others); use good grammar and correct spelling; don't write in all caps (it feels like you're shouting) or exotic fonts (they may not show up on everyone's computer); sign your name (optional for the OMPs). In short, present your best self! Review the Netiquette document for details (this is already in each course.)

Instructor Expectations:

I will read my email and the discussion board postings at least daily, but will not necessarily post messages or send out mail daily. All communication should be done via Carmen (Canvas) Inbox.
I will respond to your email within 48-72 hours.
If you have a concern that I think others will benefit from hearing discussed, I will ask you to post it on the discussion board.
You will receive a grade for your assignments within a week of submission.
I will keep you posted on how you are doing in the course, through Carmen gradebook and comments on assignment.
